The smart thing about Revoltech ankle joints (and Figma, and any other similarly styled joint) was that they angled the pegs diagonally into the foot. This allowed the foot to rotate around the peg, creating an ankle rocker motion. This is incidentally the ankle peg setup Hasbro copied and is now using for the Black Series, Marvel Legends, etc.
McFarlane didn't catch onto this. He mounted the pegs straight down into the feet, which meant annoyingly turning the joint around manually when you wanted rocker movement (and also it was impossible to do simultaneous rocker and up-and-down movement). It wasn't the worst ankle design ever, but it definitely wasn't good either.
