Theres way too much lore, and theres tons of important side characters that reappear alot. Theres like 10 alternate universes with different shows.
The kits take a long time to propperly build (paint, decals, lights etc.) you start off slow of course, but if you want pros in japan spend months on kits, and if somehow you get tired of that theres third party kits.
If you ever get tired of gundam, you'll be able to build any other bandai model kits (pokemon, obscure mecha anime, kamen rider, star wars, digimon, batman etc.) kits are pretty easy to comeby now.
The only problem i've ever had is weather making it hard to paint. I paint outside and its always either too humid or cold to paint, so i have to go out on 60C days usually (70 is considered minimum by most people, but those days never come for me).
Other than gundam, the spawn line is pretty great, and i like third party transformers. Also sh figuarts are fantastic
