Cowboy Bebop, Ghost In The Shell, Hellsing, and etc., but to claim that the medium as a whole or even primarily is designed for western highschoolers rather than a Japanese audience is absurd. If that were the case, there'd be much less of a debate in this thread about anime vs superheroes popularity in the west when franchises like Dragon Ball and One Piece are topping 20 Billion, while Batman and Spiderman are far older and barely beating them back.

Everyone knows shounen is king. The only one of the top grossing anime franchises that could fall into seinen depending on the series is Gundam. What I said was more adults are watching it now, which is thanks to a lot of factors, most importantly streaming making it more accessible.
