Without those two words it would have been just another forgettable dark fairytale flick like Stardust (2007), which I actually remember liking quiet a bit. I liked it way more than nu-Feminist Disney's Maleficent remake.
Linda Woolverton the feminist behind Maleficent (2014) went a little two far with the feminist elements in this remake, which has even been criticized by other prominent feminists like movie reviewer Grace Randolph.
