But you're also wrong about how movies are seen as the "definitive" version, especially since the movies garner so much hate and derision.
Even with the most popular movies, their designs are forgotten about less than a year later and only the most iconic designs keep on being sold and starring in cartoons and tv shows.
There's a reason why toys marketed and sold to kids continue selling out when they use most any comic book designs. Whereas movie shit? bomba.
You'd have a point if we were talking about Marvel stuff though, since most of what's popular are C and B-listers in the comics. Most people barely had an idea of who those characters were until the 00 movies started coming out.
Superman and Batman? Their designs have been almost unchanged in over 50 years. This is why their costumes are still based on those iconic comic designs.
But even the B and C listers are based on those designs as well, which shows how they don't want to change them too much. They know they still need to keep the characters recognizable.
btw, don't you think it's funny that only the movies seem to want to change the designs? All other media continues just using the comic designs.
