I actually went somewhat along with the Hydraxon instructions to get the basics shape down, then just kinda looked for interesting pieces to stick on wherever I could. A major thing I did was for the femur and humerus, not use the regular pieces, but I built my own.
I used those Bohrok head pieces for the structure, and the Rahkshi heads were on a whim, but I think they look amazing the way they smoothly go into the femur armor plate.
Try and flesh yours out a little, if you can find a set that has a nice structure that you want to base off of, that helps a lot. Otherwise, try and imagine things like how many limbs, proportions, and so on
