>>7470948This Char was originally released two years ago in a normal paint scheme. This re-release adds exaggerated shading that is supposed to make it look more like an illustration (thus the postcard, I suppose). Didn't realize the paint was being changed when I preordered, and while I would have preferred a more normal paint scheme, the previous release is of course now wildly expensive on the secondary market.
In-hand, however, I think the shading looks fantastic. The shading can look strange if you focus on specific spots of the figure, but when you look at the figure as a whole the effect really works. Swapping parts around to give Char his un-helmeted look was super easy too.
Char looks great with his RD, and I can definitely recommend him if you're looking to accent an ANIME display. But, what I'm really looking forward to is displaying him with the Metal Composite Zaku II!
>>7470947Oh awesome, welcome aboard the RD train, anon!
>I was confused that the Zaku didn't have the extending foot like the Gelgoog. I assumed that was standard. The Zaku's ankle/feets joints are probably closer to what's "standard" for RDs (ie a double ball-joint with dumbbell connection between them), but it's tough to pin down what's truly standard since Bandai will implement unique solutions to get around an original design's limitations. That's one of the neat things about RDs!
For example, the Gelgoog's design has big feet nestled inside of bell bottoms, and though the RD uses that standard double ball-joint set up, there's additional joints added that allow for the extra extension. That gets the Gelgoog more range of motion that otherwise probably would have been hindered by the bell bottoms.
