How long has everyone been into Mega? Was there a specific set or aspect that drew you in and if so, what was it?
I got into Mega when they first started their Halo line (originally called Halo Wars as it was a tie-in to that game originally), all the way back in 2009. Had been a fan of the games and was going through my Lego "dark age" when they came out; gave the UNSC Turret with three Spartans a try... and the rest is history. Those first couple years of sets were a real ride of exciting anticipation of new figures, vehicles and weapons, countered by the frustrations of Mega's lower quality, weaker clutch and occasional warped piece (my first Warthog had one of those; ended up gluing some parts on my first Hornet). Then they started upping the quality in all those areas, not to perfection by any means but by the time they started the CoD line it had pretty much reached where we're at today.
I kinda miss those times, from speculating about/hoping for new weapons (the first wave of sets only had clumsy SMGs and huge shotguns for the UNSC, beam rifles(why?) for the Covenant (nothing at all for the Grunts in early sets)), to hunting down the first series of blind bags. I remember how awesome it was when the next year's wave added a whole lot more at once: Brutes, Jackals, sniper rifles, ARs, magnums, plasma pistols, Brute shots, energy swords and the first ODST drop pods. I guess collecting these days is a lot like collecting Lego Star Wars when most of the "new" stuff coming out is remakes of older stuff and anything that's truly new just doesn't feel all that exciting anymore. The direction they took the series has left me jaded and I haven't felt any meaningful connection with things like the Banished or the Spartan IVs.
Sorry for the blog post, guess it just hit randomly that it'll be 12 years this year since it all started, was in a pretty rough place at the time and while I can't say Mega Halo got me through it, surely it helped in its own way, heh.
