Ok, so I got this autistic idea
I want to design and laser cut manga-sized-ish boxes for accessories (hands, faceplates, etc), with each "volume" being either for a single figure or for manny related figures (I would concentrate on 1/12 foreign figures).
It would be composed of three parts. First a hard dust sleeve, inside there would be a box which would open in some way to reveal the third element; a board with cavities laser-cut to for specific pieces, there would be foam under and over the pieces to prevent them from touching the hard surfaces for too long. If we get an expansion or extra pieces for a figure which already has a volume built for it then I would only have to replace the inner board.
In all likelihood the volumes would be around 3-4cm thick, I will aim for as much uniformity between volumes, but there are a few figures (like Snail Shell Saori and Shikura) which would demand for much bigger boxes. There is also the possibility to store an entire figure, but that's for later.
I would also like to cover the bare MDF with some kind of book cloth, do things like embossing and create labels so the box feels nice to see and use. Things like the sleeve are mostly to give the box a clean look and a solid feel than if I were to keep the opening element exposed
The reason of why I am sharing this instead of working on it is because I want to know if this would be something people would be interested in buying. The material is cheap, the design would be optimized to be laser-cut as cheaply as possible, manny parts can be reused, but I would try my hardest to make it feel and look nice. I would most likely keep this to myself, maybe building a few extra as commissions, but I like to think about the possibility of it becoming a side-business. So, what do you think? Would having your pieces neat and organized be worth the extra money, or is the fishing-box-pill just that strong?
