Nevermind how it would even move and whatnot.I think the way Dark Horse comics handled it was that they were implied to be the result of the xenomorphs incorporating DNA from alien species that resembled Earth species due to convergent evolution or adapting to ther planets. Like the Rhynth in the Alien vs Predator comics, or the aliens from the scrapped RPG Aliens: Crucible. So the mantis alien would be the result of a facehugger impregnating an alien creature that resembled a mantis.
