If they need to use Prince Adam just make him like the one in the 80s DC Comics
Evil-Lyn could be in the toy colors
Mer-Man could look like the minicomic or toy design (but this design from the 80s DC Comics seen here predates the Filmation design, IIRC)
Skeletor could also have the Battle Armor
But I think that Mattel should at a minimum have rights to the designs they already had prior to Filmation's involvement. And maybe they can't do 200X but they could do stuff inspired by it (like how they incorporated in Zodak)
