Hell, the actual backstory they went with on the official figure came from the fans collectively piecing together an origin and personality for the figure long before voting even finished. Even his name was specifically chosen by the fan community, being worked and tweaked until we ended up with what was officially on his package.
Lazy? No, certainly not. Uninspired? Not particularly. Unoriginal? Yea, that's kind of where it fell imo.

>>5713239. And while I don't have an exact pic comparing the two, the birds are a fairly comparable size to the knights. To the top of the helm, most ML figures are about 6.5" tall, the birds can stand a bit taller then that, depending on how their legs are bent.
