The competition being stuff like McFarlane, whose toys ranged from schizo-tier articulation (like that one figure with a weird multi-jointed shoulder that provides far less effective articulation than a "normal" setup) or McStatues with random cuts to allow for borderline useless articulation.
In fact the only pre-Revoltech toys I can think of that really hold up are some kids' toys, namely Transformers, most of which were joint efforts between the West and Japan anyway.
