>>5947612I have a better suggestion... the classic dollhouse bricks made from egg cartons. Use regular craft acrylics (recommend Americana) and sponge it on the egg carton. Sponge again with a slightly lighter shade. Cut to brick shapes and seal with acrylic sealer. Glue them on your MDF/plywood.
The best part- tint real spackling paste (lightweight) and use it to grout the bricks. Then, at the end, you can apply a paint wash to dirty and age things up a bit.
The end result has a texture and authenticity that can't truly be duplicated with plastic molded sheets.
Here's an example. Dollhouse DIY kit from China that has lights, but they weren't specific about how to hide the wiring, batteries and switch. I decided to add this chimney as a way to hide the electronics, as well as add a period-appropriate touch.
