6195 Neptune Discovery Lab is one of the best bases Lego has ever put out. And yes, I am aware it has downsides - the price to part ratio is pretty bad, but the addition of the raised baseplates and large window pieces really do make the thing fit together in a fantastic way.
Smaller elements simply couldn't have added this much value in terms of completeness.
Oh, and did I mention it has a submarine that comes with it as well? Granted, it's not the best sub and I had to modify it quite a bit to allow it to carry seated divers in the back compartment.
