I forced myself to start getting better at making cars because I ran a lot of games that involved cars and thought it would be more entertaining to look at six-wides instead of four-wides. Now I like making cars. I'm still not very good at it, but I like the process of making them and driving them around the table making engine noises.
If you really do still feel drawn to the plastic crack, just focus on building something until you're satisfied with it. Why not try one of the monthly challenges in the OP? Make a brickbuilt turkey or something.
