It's because they're not the original cast. The choice of women was just to drum up support from "progressives" and use accusations of sexism to deflect any legitimate criticism.
Also because they think tumblr will give them money.
That unpleasantness aside, you still have the fact that none of the original writers are involved, and everything has been redesigned in the worst ways possible. They even made proton packs look utterly uninteresting.
And horizontal white and orange stripes across the chest? What the fuck were they thinking?
So no, this reboot has a lot more wrong with it than just the casting.
But always remember that new casts in a series like this will always be met with initial criticisms. Look at every Star Trek ever produced after TOS.
