Calico Critters are what it's called in the US, and Sylvanian Families are what they're called in the rest of the world (Japan, Europe, South America, etc.)
They're identical in quality (although I've read that the japanese ones are a bit taller than the US ones? Never confirmed this though)
Also for those who care about lore, the character names differ between Calico Critters and Sylvanian Families for the same animals
They also own "Li'l Woodzeez", which was just recently introduced. It's similar to Calico Critters, but the most noticeable difference is the quality. Li'l Woodzees are much cheaper and their quality shows it; the flocking isn't as good, they don't feel as premium, cheaper materials, etc.
However I do recommend their sets. They might not be as colored in or premium as Calico Critters, but a paintjob can make them look amazing from what i've seen, pic related
