Cybertron for the most part was able to work out how to keep gimmicks and still let the robot mode be poseable. Cybertron Downshift is a good example, in vehicle mode his Cyber Planet Key plugs onto the back window of the car roof to activate his chest claw, yet in robot mode with the whole car roof folded down it was still able to activate the gimmick. And don't get me started on the witchcraft that is Voyager Starscream.
