I also see cheaper, more sparse shag-like "fur" being used if it's of something with a lot of fur instead of the soft, rich faux fur that was more common in the 90s and 2000s. I guess companies have realized that when it comes to toys of characters and fandom things, people will buy it whether the fabric is high quality.
