>>11186479And let me tell you, they were very much needed once things got rolling. Do you know how quickly even a minor siege can melt away an army? My boy, I've been investing strongholds since before you drew your first breath and I've seen men perish by the thousand for a modest keep.
Was just our luck the very first major obstacle in our quest was a stone fortress nestled in the only pass through the Feldgrau Mountains. The urgency of our mission precluded an encirclement and starvation siege so had to straight up assault the bloody thing. What's that? Oh heavens no, we didn't bother with the chivalric niceties of parlay. With a wizard superweapon at stake they surely would've done all they could to impede and delay us.
Alas we gained very little in the end for our bold strike, merely a few more scraps of rumour pointing in other directions to stretch out our quest. Ogilthorpe and and Warwick nearly came to blows over who could add the ruins to their fiefdoms after the battle, now that was entertaining! Even better when His Majesty's official envoy strongly implied it would do both men well to offer it up to the King as a gesture of fealty. As if this great mission itself isn't the ultimate sign of our loyalty... that cunning rat will weasel his way into lordship of it. But we'll see about that another time.
