This is doubly so when the deviation from this supposed process is minimal, given he is still working within the constraints of the lego format. Having everything available to you is indeed an added challenge, but it is less of one than trying to make something work that never will with what you have on hand. Further, the process of experimenting with pieces still happens in the digital space, and looking through what is available is comparable to searching for parts to order but you are able to immediately find if it is right for the build.
I think what he's building is dumb but the medium he is working in is not what is causing him difficulty.
