I've never built a sub before, but I just had an idea /smg/, tell me how insane it is:
As a watch repairer I have a bunch of old radium watch hands laying around, some in a thick wood drawer, some in a lead capsule. Reason being their pretty radioactive. I have a radiation detector and it starts clicking like crazy if I put it next to them. Though any obstacle like thin wood will block most of the beta radiation. Here's how just a few hands sound in the open (yes, I'm fucking around with radioactive material in the store):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-JLxTHHVBUI thought about building a Soviet nuclear sub and leaving a few watch hands in a zippy bag glued into the inside of the hull where the reactor would be on the real thing. So if I hold a rad counter next to it it would start clicking for "realism" (I'd bet old slavshit were radiation-leaky anyway), but not in a really crazy way as the plastic hull would shield against most of the beta particles.
Is this idea kinda cool or kinda insane?
