>>8122574There were a number of stumbling blocks (no pun intended). Mainly, I think they overestimated the overlap between HW collectors and MB builders. HW collectors didn't buy the sets, because most sets were out of scale with their collections (and the ones that were in scale looked like ass). The Mega Bloks sets also cost more than regular Hot Wheels packs. Mega was also experimenting with packaging sets in cardboard canisters at the time, so that might have turned some potential buyers off. Finally, I think the Mega Bloks branding might have deterred people from buying sets. They were really trying to shake their image as an inferior "not Lego" brand. Maybe it would do better now that Mega has been absorbed by Mattel, but I don't think people want more of what they already have.
