>>7097568Just my personal taste. Pokémon is set in a lighthearted world and are generally cute and cuddly. Too much skin texture, grime and grittiness doesn't work because it clashes tonally. In trying to make them "real", they often end up breaking the design too, which is what made them cool in the first place. Eg. John Goodman face, forehead too high, no bubble arms, white bands missing, weird shell pattern.
Pic related works well because TMNT was set in a dark dirty city.
