All they need to do is decide on a definitive version of the character and do what DF did in those examples, take the design and put it on some faceplates and work them until theyre perfect, and reuse them. The hair is pretty much impossible to ever get correct because the spike number and directions vary from panel to panel, but the face can be done right if they try.
