I wouldn't be so pedantic about this if it was an alien, but this is a monster based on an established male character that the director said was male. It would be like if someone made a Frankenstein movie where the monster makes himself pregnant with the excuse being that Dr. Frankenstein inserted female reproductive organs into his body. Actually, it makes even less sense, because why not just say that Godzilla 1998 is canonically female?
