>>7161975I used to at least say, well, she's been good for ballet because her shows usually sell out and a lot of people have gotten into ballet or let their kids take ballet due to her. But after the fouette disaster and her inability to just admit she couldn't do them, in addition to reading some of her memoir where she makes some very bold and easily disproven claims... nah.
There's lots of other black ballerinas before and after Misty who have better skills and who don't rely on faking racism and dating a donor to get promoted. Not that there isn't racism within the ballet community, but in Misty's case, there's a very clear timeline where she used vague claims of racism combined with a media tour in order to pressure the company into promoting her to principal.
I'd rather support dancers who have skills, show they are open to improving, and have faced genuine racism--like Precious Adams who studied at the Bolshoi, talk about jumping into the lion's den--rather than Misty "just 1 out of the 5 companies I applied to didn't accept me, therefore that company is racist even though they were one of the first American companies to hire black ballerinas" Copeland.
Sorry for the tangent!!
