My technique for machine guns, that sort of worked so far:

Now this first attempt is kinda shitty imo, because it looks more like the finish is chipping, instead of wearing down and going more and more opaque, like on real weapons, so I'll probably take down this acrylic coat off and try again.
Also maybe semi-gloss black is better for a DShK that flat black.
