Stuff like rubberbands aren't comparable, as you can feel how cheap they are by their textured surface. That texture helps with its elasticity, but it's also what causes rubberbands to wear out faster.
Whereas McFarlane's are very smooth, like silicon/neoprene/pvc.
I imagine the material is like Hasbro has been using for their overlays on GI Joes. These overlays have existed for probably two decades now and you rarely ever hear any complaints about them crumbling, despite their thinness and always being flexed.
So if GI Joes from 2003-2005 are stil intact, you really shouldn't worry aside from pushing it too far and physically tearing it.
