And yeah, I've come to the conclusion that in my quest to make 99% printable figures (the remaining 1% accounting for metal pins) I'm gonna need to revise my jointing approach. I think I know how I'm going to approach it though.
Speaking of which, I managed to assemble enough printed joints to almost completely assemble a 99% printed, zero-premade-joints-used figure. No hands because the wrist joints I made are basically unusable (given how fragile Figma wrists can be I think it's fair to say resin clones have no chance), and some of the ports are very loose as I had to bore them out to avoid joints sticking and breaking, but there's something magical about making an entire figure from nothing but UV-activated goo and steel wire.
I'm going to keep this and my first Shortstack body available, but future designs will be more refined and should come with everything needed to make a figure out the box, so to speak. I've learned a lot from this, and I think I know how to improve my craft. Knowing that balljoints actually work really well is definitely a bonus, and I'll definitely try and work them into my designs in future.
