I've been a fan of FotNS for like 22 years now, which is more than half my life. I started watching it because I thought the character designs of Kenshiro on the old VHS tapes looked ridiculous; some muscular dude with huge eyebrows. I think I bought it as a joke expecting some campy cheese and the dub certainly delivered on those grounds. It was always the one I'd get drunk and show to my friends for a laugh...
But then in my 20s I started to take a serious interest in it. Bought some Hong Kong bootleg of the series on DVD and it was horribly subtitled which only added to its silliness. I'd get stoned out of my gourd and watch it with my then roommate. A few years ago I bought the complete TV series on Blu Ray and finally finished the entirety of FotNS 1 with my girlfriend. The Rei arc was still the highlight of the entire series for us and some parts near the middle to end were kind of a slough to get through, but I have no regrets.
There will probably never be a more prolific supernatural martial arts anime that can even tough the might and manliness of FotNS. I really need to get some figures for it. I had a crappy little vintage figurine of Raou stomping on some dude's head with Kokuou but the thing could barely stand. I see these amazing garage kits but they're super expensive and unpainted. I really don't even know where to begin with finding a solid and emblematic piece that will capture my love for the TV series and motion picture without breaking my wallet.
I managed to find pic related from my other favorite manime for a pretty decent price but now he's kind of expensive I think. Would be cool to have something of Raou or Ken like this.
