Well get ready because this will show you otherwise.
My friend Mark and I have been buddies since grade school. We were nerds all through life, even now. He collected Star Wars figures, while I collected Marvel and DC heroes. He was a MISB dork, While I opened everything. We used to tease each other about it, the usual banter between friends. To this day if we see something the other might like we buy it and send it to each other.
The only time we really ever had a disagreement was the time we stopped in an old collectables shop. We hit a treasure trove of figures and shit, and he came across a SW B'omarr Monk figure. This was only available via mail away, and he missed out on it. The problem was, it was open, out of the box. He was really tore up about it, because he HAD to have it MISB, and it was something that he really wanted.
But he refused to budge. It had to be MISB. When he wasn't looking I bout the damn thing for him and was going to give it to him later.
I begged him to unclench about the thing I knew he totally wanted that figure so badly, but he wouldn't budge. For years he moped about it. I kept it on top of my TV, so every time he came over he'd see it and complain about it.
One day years later I finally convinced him that he was being stupid about it (He wanted it so bad, but the whole packaging thing was stopping him from enjoying it) and I gave it to him. He was as giddy as a child on Christmas morning.
He's grown past the MISB phase now. He has displays all over his house now, much to the chagrin of his wife, but at least the house doesn't look like a figure shop, with hundreds of unopened packages hanging on the walls.
