The remix of it ended 30 years ago
The G2 remix of cartoons ended 23 years ago
Someone born in 2000 is an adult and would have grown up with the Bay movies and Animated as their main source of the brand. G1 -at best- would have a retro quality but they have no investment in it.
This all means the market here that likes the toys genuinely wants cool robots inspired from the robots than 1 for 1s of their lost childhood and really most people that grew up with the 84 cartoon are between 30+ and 40+ years old and have by majority moved on with at least a spouse and/or kid as well as a life bigger than just toys.
