As for Nappa, he was never shown standing right beside Piccolo but he never seemed too much taller than him. Nappa only seemed so big because Vegeta was barely bigger than a Saibaman back then. Both Recoome and especially Burter looked way bigger in similar poses (like when Goku holds Nappa and Burter up).
