I liked Beast machines.
Was it a good sequel to Beast Wars? No. There were way too many discrepancies in terms of characterization and a few plot points.
Taken as it’s own semi-distinct soft-reboot though, it was a good show. Cybertron is actually more guilty of both of those issues when viewed as a supposed sequel to Energon or Armada, but no one really treats it as that so they just like or dislike the show on its own merits.
Taken on its own the show had a coherent and compelling overall plot. An interesting conflict dynamic with a cast of essentially guerrilla fighters in an industrial post-apocalyptic urban wasteland, against a central, overwhelming, hyper-competent antagonistic power. Most of the main cast had their own fleshed out character arcs and conflicts. And even if it wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, the technological vs organic conflict and mysticism elements explored some interesting an novel concepts for the franchise.
