>>8538676>My point is that the people complaining about the new stuff are acting like we've gotten nothing but cartoon accurate toysIf anything, the issue is the fact that it's essentially homogenized the entire market for Transformers. If you don't buy 3rd party products you have either 2 options, the tooner MP figures or the tooner WFC figures with no middle ground in between aside from a few mediocre studio series figures. If I'm correct we haven't got any actually new characters in years aside from the Weaponizers/modulators but even then they're about 1/8th of the WFC at most. It may be cool for people who grew up with G1 but for people who are fans of the franchise who have no nostalgia for the original cartoon, it's kind of bullshit. There's nothing really there for post-G1 fans who've stuck with the brand for decades and when everything has just been cranking the same uninspired designs out over and over it's alienating.
The reason why Hunt for the Decepticons is looked at so fondly is because it didn't rely heavily on nostalgia or "hey look its that guy from the big screen). It was all about toys that turned from vehicles into robots and doing so in the most creative and unique ways possible, thus opening up avenues for all kinds of creativity. Lines like G2, ROTF, Beast Wars, Cybertron etc and the like feel like they have their own established identity whereas WFC to me feels like it's just going to be forgotten after the next half decade. I think people already forgot about half of Siege and Earthrise already, I don't blame them because this will probably feel so dated eventually.
