>>8876992>what was the point of the sliding door on the top of the missile?! it's neat but I always assumed it was for some gimmick that we didn't get. just to let light in?On the original use of the mold as G1 Stalker, it was part of a gimmick to flip down a slide with an image of an Autobot on it inside the rocket/missile thing. The idea was you'd look through the eyepiece at the base of the rocket and see a picture as if you're aiming at the Autobot to shoot him. Stalker is the only version of that mold I don't own, so I don't know what the picture on his slide looks like, but I think it was a picture of Rotorstorm.
G1 Skyquake also had the same gimmick, but just like it was left out when Stalker was turned into MW Soundwave and then Universe Soundwave, it was also left out when Skyquake was turned into MW Starscream and later Universe King Atlas (in fact, Skyquake had two slides, iirc).
I couldn't find a picture of Stalker's slide to show you, but here's one of Skyquake's slides to give you an idea what they sorta looked like. The Autobot pictured here is Hyperdrive, who was designed around that time but then never ended up getting produced as an actual toy.
