Looking at the instructions it seems part of the track tensioning system's functionality has been replicated in the kit since I actually need to get these things suitably tensioned as I build the kit. (Permanently so of course, and not so it won't throw a track but merely to look right without cracking off the idler or drive sprocket, but still.)
