Spotted the new Dream Ella endcap display at my local Wally-World today. What a shitty looking series of dolls!
Yeah, for those of you who love MGA for their quality with OMG and RH, be prepared for disappoint. Dream Ella is a VERY basic Babs clone with cheap clothes and limited articulation. Seen here are the three basic career dolls that go for $8 each. (Ella is the brown haired pet vet, BTW.) There was also the car and some blindbag dolls that are very similar in style to the Babs blindbags.
The heads are very basic and without character to their faces. All three dolls in the career set have these really HUEG platform shoes with uber thick soles. Skin is very orange for Ella and the other two have skin that's very different from normal Babs standards, so no MtM head swapping 4U.
That's all I can report just buy looking the dolls over at the store, but not buying them. I checked some YouTube videos out and they report that the build quality of the plastic and hair is better than a fashionista. They can wear clothes of most doll brands, but they can't fit into the Babs standard shoes as their feet are too big & arched.
What a disappointment all around. If MGA applied themselves to make Ella have amore charismatic face and more articulation, they could really hurt Bab's dominance in the pink aisle. But it looks as if MGA has decreed to turn the Ella line into another low budget generic fashion doll line. Such a missed opportunity.
