>>10056894This was released in the UK by Palitoy, who was the licensed distributor for Star Wars toys in the UK. Because of economic differences between the US and the UK at the time, kids were glad to have that. In the US there was a fully plastic Death Star playset from kenner, but in terms of design I feel like Palitoy did more with less. And the Star Destroyer playset they put out for Empire Strikes Back was just sad, especially when you consider that Hasbro (who at the time was a rival of Kenner) put out the USS Flagg for their GI Joe line just 2 years after Return of the Jedi.
Speaking for myself, I had a death star playset from the 90s Power of the Force 2 line, but it absolutely paled compared to the playsets of the 80s. It was just a chunk of hallway with a couple of play features-- a sliding door for Leia's prison cell, a trap door that you could imagine led to the garbage chute, and a random turret on a ball joint with firing missiles. It was only about 10" wide, nothing compared to the Death Star playsets released in the 80s.
