Since they are attending school Yume could very well just be a kendo fan and got her own sword. Mels gun just seems like a water gun to me so it makes sense with her being in a swimsuit. Emil though, I dont know. Maybe he just likes to carry a gun. Then again, crime seems to still exists seeing as how Pinkle wants to join the police, so maybe the weapons are for protection.
