>>11269549I was just a dumb kid who ate anything lego threw at him. As I grew older, I began to be a lot more critical of the lego sets of yore.
Pic is a good example. I feel like I would've adored this set back in the day. It's a bigass fortress and comes with 2 whole fucking mechs (one is a recolor but thats still cool) what's not to love?
I only got it 10 years after it came out at Brickfair. And sadly the magic was simply absent. Especially since I didn't actually play with any of it anymore. Looking at it now, the gate itself is impressive but the walls and towers look very unstable and thin, and the robot mech looks kinda silly and is just there to boost the price.
What DOES make me mad however, is that my interest in lego began to wane around the time they introduce adult sets or just sets with more advanced and intricate techniques. The problem is, as time went on I began to think "whats the point? I'm running out of space, lego is expensive and once i build it ill probably ignore it anyway." I have a whole pile of unopened lego sets because I just never had the time nor space to build them. When I moved on to 40k I quickly nipped that habit in the bud too when my pile of unopened boxes for that got 4 boxes high.
