>>9131015>>9131016>>9131018The mass proliferation of "nerd" and "geek" culture as being mainstream was an utter mistake, it used to be that if shit was made for the indoor Otaku/basement dweller audience, there was at least some semblance of quality to any of the products made because the producers of said lines knew that no indoors guy would pay money for cheap mass manufactured plastic shit forcing them to put some quality into the stuff they produced.
Now everything is BUY NOW BEFORE ITS GONE! ITS IN LIMITED STOCK SO YOU GOTTA HURRY! This shit may not have killed modern toy lines, but it certainly kneecapped and hit the cranium of the industry with a baseball bat. Everything is built now with the expectation that "someone will buy it" and not, "after we looked at the demand we've finally made it". This is also why stuff that would have used to be actual legit collectors stuff has gone up in price in recent years, because they know that you won't pay for the plastic shit, but if they do it with the mega bigfuck toy 9000, they know you'll pay for it and there is nothing you will do about it. This is also the reason why shit at cons or online are worth 4x to 5x their original value and old stuff from the 70s and 80s is Holy grail material that is nigh untouchable. I remember when if you went to a con, that you could get an old Kenner Y-Wing, maybe a couple of He-Man figures and still get lunch afterwards. And shit like this now is behind fucking bulletproof display cases or multiple hundred dollar pricetags at cons or online. Modern /toy/ design is so sad to look at sometimes.
