I've no idea how big a real microscope is.
As you can see Scalpel is a slightly more modern microscope than what we usually get in Transformers. With the trade off of not also turning into a tank.
I think he's a pretty accurate little microscope. He's got the little tray clasps and various tuning knobs.
Not much play value other than novelty but you can slide the apparatus up and down the stem.
