Not the case here, Trigger designs work as toys from the get go, some people are just mistaking the overly exaggerated perspective they use sometimes with how the actual robots would look and work if they made a collaborative effort with Takara. These guys just adore toys, they own a shitton of them, and know how to make plausible transformations.
It's obvious that some of them that are rabid Transformer fans, as seen again and again in their shows.
