Engine is a bit small, but there are actually a lot of printed parts. Minifigs are pretty lame and the printing ink is pretty cheap.
The engine, despite its size, does have a huge chunk that is obviously meant to be analogous to the train motor, so it probably could take one.
Designs are a little flimsy and have a lot of straight-up vertical parts with little support. Not the best, but still only $35.
It came with nine pieces of track, seven straights and two curves.
