I wouldn't call it the best figure released all year, but when it comes down to it It's the one toy I wouldn't change a thing on or desire much more of; Mezco's One:12 Space Ghost. And by that I mean, it does everything it sets out to do just about right. No stupid Mezco overdesigning, classic Toth look, done nicely, down to the wired "wavy cape". Some range of motion could be a bit better to do the button press on the gauntlets better, and I wouldn't have minded some SGC2C stuff like the desk, but thats honestly asking a bit much for the price this day and age.
There were better figures, sure, but a lot had some flaws or I feel could be done better. My runner up is probably the 3P tRansformer Beast Goriria, or Optimal Optimus, from Perfect effect. great figure, but I'm upset by some of the changes to the design from the original, even though overall the proportions are much nicer.
MP3 Samus is another really cool release and there's very little complaints I have with it, too, but honestly after the first figma its not quite exciting, though the new one is worlds better.
Also notable is the SoC Megazord, though it doesn't feel quite as all-out impressive and GaoGaiGar or Voltron.
This is actually one of the first years in recent memory I felt kinda underwhelmed by Japan. There's still a ton of solid releases over there and overall they had a better amount of great releases, but there really wasn't anything that flat out wowed me like years before.
Mezco and NECA, however, have been killing it. Neca is basically the definition of good value on the market right now, barring some QC issues that are luck of the draw. I'm not entirely happy with Mezco's way of doing things, but man they do a solid figure when they do well.
