For mod #2 just scrap the surface in the picture with an utility knife, be careful and scrap a little each time and test the join, if you scrap too deep you can make the articulation loose.
For #3b it's easier, use an utility knife to cut the marked spots on guts belt, those really hinder the articulation and doing this also fixes his right leg problem of falling off.
Trust me, you really want to do at least the legs one, it feels like a completely different figure now.
