So the canopy was "opened" but the rest of the parts were in their original bag and still fully sealed. If Lego had not changed bag design to that particular type of plastic bag with the holes in it, I would have had a breath of late 80s air. Alas it was not to be.
Setting up to build it was fun - I already had this set for my collection but the fact that the parts were new and crisp made it a very enjoyable experience.
Overall I've always liked this set, I feel it's a very good mech given the selection of parts that were used. It also has a very rugged and utilitarian feel to it.
It feels very much like an SCV-like thing to me, the small, rugged machine on the back of which the future was built and the stars were conquered.
So there it is, strategically pursuing whatever adventure comes next, building the future one brick at a time!
